Since we purchased Akuna 28 years go, we have always tried to keep the boat up to date, both in appearance and equipment.  Our use of the boat has predominantly been permanent liveaboard; marinas in winter and at anchor in summer.  Accordingly, we have tried to make the boat as self sufficient as possible.  Central to this is a powerful electrical system (now with a large solar array and lithium batteries), watermaker, generator and 7000 litre fuel capacity, which allows the boat to spend months at anchor.  The installation of the new solar panels and lithium batteries this year has resulted in mimimal generator run time.  In fact, it is now possible to run for days without using the generator.

Most of the original equipment on Akuna has been replaced during our ownership.  Besides the engines, not much remains and some equipment is on its second refresh.  The original equipment which remains is in good working order.  In particular, the main engines have had 100% reliability since we bought the boat.
